Why
did the Ancient Egyptians build Pyramids?
Pyramids
were built by the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt as tombs to protect
their bodies and belongings during their journey through the
afterlife. How
many pyramids are there in Egypt? About
80 pyramids have survived from Ancient Egypt and can still be
seen today. Many of these are little more than piles of rubble
(see Pyramid of Userkaf below).

Which
of the pyramids is the biggest?
The biggest and most
famous pyramid in Egypt is the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza
which stands at 140 metres tall. Although
nobody knows for sure, it is said that it took 20 years and
100’000 men, women and children to build it.

Khufu's pyramid has 3
Queen's pyramids beside it. The 1st is thought to have been
built for Queen Hetepheres who was probably Khufu's mother. The
2nd was possibly built for Queen Meritetes and the 3rd for Queen
Henutsen.

do the other pyramids at Giza belong to?
